Melissa Tucker, a training coach and one of Canada’s foremost global fitness competitors, is a member of our team of PURICA Ambassadors committed to providing you with healthy eating and training tips. Here are Melissa’s tips on how to stick with your fitness plan.
We all want to be healthy, fit and happy…but it can be challenging to achieve with our hectic lives. Here are five tips to help you start and stick with your fitness plan:
Take Personal Responsibility for your health and fitness. I encourage you to build a support team of good friends around you to help motivate, assist and support you along your journey.
Make it Non-Negotiable: Good exercise habits will happen because you make them happen. Schedule “non-negotiable” appointments with yourself on your phone or calendar with the exact day and time you are committing to workout and prep your healthy meals for the week ahead. You will be surprised how quickly those appointments will be something you cherish, protect and look forward to!
Believe: Forget about yesterday – no matter what your previous experiences or attempts to change your fitness habits in the past have been… today is a new day. Believing that you can do it requires one thing…FAITH that you have the strength to do it. All things are possible one day at a time.
Do The Best Workout For You: Whenever I’m asked, “What is the best exercise to help me lose weight, get in shape or improve my health? “My answer is “The best exercise is the one you will do!” Whatever brings joy to your heart and soul, you are much more apt to continue. If you choose exercises you find boring or dread doing, you won’t achieve long-term success.
Track your progress: Use a small notebook, training Journal or your mobile device to keep track of what exercises you’re doing; include the sets, repetitions and weight lifted. It creates a great personalized workout plans to reference in the future. To simplify your workout tracking, you can simply challenge yourself to do some form of physical activity everyday and just check off the days you did it. I strongly recommend doing a Food Mood Journal to record what you’re eating and drinking to fuel and nourish your body. Be sure to note of how you feel before during and after your workouts and meals so you can prove to yourself that the days you workout and eat healthy are the same days you feel, happier, more energized and more productive.
It doesn’t matter where you begin – what matters is taking that first step. Start small and make Health and Fitness part of your everyday in some way.
