PURICA Hand Sanitizer approved by Health Canada

…Ethyl alcohol-based liquid hand cleaner the result of Vancouver Island community partnership between Shelter Point Distillery and PURICA

Duncan, British Columbia (Thursday, April 23rd, 2020) – PURICA and Shelter Point Distillery, both based on Vancouver Island, have joined forces to produce, launch and distribute PURICA Hand Sanitizer, an ethyl alcohol-based liquid hand cleaner approved by Health Canada and produced at Shelter Point’s craft distillery on a third-generation seaside farm overlooking the Salish Sea.

“As with so many of our more traditional whole food products and natural supplements, we’re literally responding to the grassroots and the demand for effective hand sanitizers and pleased to do so in partnership with our friends at Shelter Point Distillery,” said Jason Watkin, Chief Executive Officer & Chief Formulator at PURICA. “We truly appreciate the spirit of community partnership behind this – including from Health Canada, Shelter Point and our valued retailer network across Canada.”

Health Canada is encouraging that established leaders in the field help keep up with the demand for hand sanitizers during the COVID-19 crisis and beyond and PURICA and Shelter Point accepted the challenge of aggressive timelines around production, marketing and distribution through this important supply chain.

“We’re very proud to partner with PURICA and create a made-in-Canada, made-on-Vancouver Island solution for Canadians from coast-to-coast,” said Patrick Evans, President of Shelter Point Distillery, a highly-respected artisanal distillery that produces its premium spirits from barley grown on its 380-acre farm in Oyster River, B.C. “We couldn’t think of better partners and the proof is in how quickly we’ve been able to develop this ethanol-based solution. We’re excited to work with PURICA to help make a difference to prevent the spread of COVID-19 and do so with trusted partners every step of the way.”

Both Watkin and Evans believe that the spread of the novel coronavirus and the best practices being established to help contain COVID-19 will set a new standard for personal hygiene and clean hands in the future, well beyond the current crisis.

The PURICA Hand Sanitizer – featuring fresh blue-and-black labelling, the familiar PURICA Triskelion, Shelter Point emblem and a side-panel outline of Vancouver Island – is now available online and will begin shipping to stores the week of April 27th.
